Basic Understanding of this CCK 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hii friends its really a great thing to have in joomla. Thanks for all who are in the back of this extension. I would like to post some of the problems im facing while using this extension.

I am creating a website named foot-prints.org. This site's index page poem and the About us will give you a view of this site. Im having a game plan on how the pages to be constructed.

I will explain what i did and what im facing now:-
1. Creation of forms :-
I want to allow the registered users to create a memorial page. The page consists of some custom fields i made. I created a custom type also. I linked it with my Top menu item also. Now the submitted article is by default in a published state. Because i want to show this submitted article to be shown in the front page as a article list which can be seen by anyone.
Problems:-
a.Im unable to make the article by default content front page. I dont want to give the radio button control on the site front end form.
b.How i will be able to show the list of all articles of one category.
c. I want to allow the register users to send invitation email. How can i do that with cck.

Hi shivain22

I'm not sure what you mean by

"Im unable to make the article by default content front page. I dont want to give the radio button control on the site front end form." In Joomla you can click on the button 'Frontpage' next to the article of choice and make it appear on the frontpage. The other way is just to have a menu item called for example Home and have this point to the Article of choice. If 'Home' is the default menu item then this is your homepage (see attached image)
This image is hidden for guests. Please login or register to see it.

b. To do this you need to give your menu item a Category Blog or Category List layout. Create a menu item as normal and under Articles select Category Blog or Category List layout. Then in the parameters section point it to your required category.

c. I would create my form in JSeblod and add an email field. The user can then type an email address into this, hit the submit button and an email will be sent. You may have to edit the form action properties as well but I can't quite remember.

Good luck.

Thanks cols. I understood about how to make a list of articles under a category to show in the front page. My problem is that, the article submitted by the user is from a form i designed with the help of jseblod. This article by default stored in a published state. But to make it shown in the front page i need to toggle the frontpage option in the article manager. Where as i want to make this as a default. Jseblod is having a field named "content front page" which is a radio button asking the user to make the article to come up in front page. I hope im able to make myself more clear now.

Hi shivain22

Apologies for my misunderstanding.

I looked at your problem and I think you may be able to do something. The base field of the Content Front Page field is the Content Construction Front Page field. Make a copy of this, call it My Content Construction Front Page or something and then edit it. You want to change it from a Radio button to a hidden field and give it a value of 1 which is equal to "yes" as in you want it displayed on the front page.

Now also make a copy of the Content Front Page field and call this "My Content Front Page". Change the base field from Content Construction Front Page to My Content Construction Front Page. Now add My Content Front Page to your form instead of Content Front Page.

The field is not visible to the user but has a default value of "yes". Please note I haven't tried this but it should work in theory.

Hope this helps

Regards,
Cols

Hii thx for your highly appreciated help but it was in vain. it was not working, the hidden text field was not created and it was not in the source of the form rendered. May be some problem with rendering that field i guess.

Anyway i compromised my requirement for the solution. But now i got a new problem. I just did something wrong with my page, i got a title field in my form without me selecting it anywhere. It is not shown in the content type. but shown in the site form. I cant find where it is. The final solution is im going to recreate a form again. can you throw some light on this please

Hi shivain22

I'm afraid I can't. I do remember having a similar issue myself once and I recreated my form from scratch once again.

I'm surprised the hidden field didn't work and that is most disappointing. I now have a requirement to have a hidden field myself, this time it's the Content Published field I am going to try and remodel as a hidden field. I'll give it a try when I get a chance and see if I can get it working. I'll let you know how I get on.

Good luck
